All 4-H members and families are welcome to attend any or all meetings, activities and events for learning and enjoyment.
Thursday, Sept 16 – 4-6 pm, 4-H Open House is for all 4-H members & friends at the Jefferson Co Ext Office.
Come to the 4-H Open House and see what you can grow.
Ask questions, do an activity and learn about the project possibilities.
There will be project examples and some sample activities to do and take home. What kind of plants, gardens, or crops would you enjoy growing or learning about?
Projects can be planting and growing crops, garden vegetables or flowers or caring for a house plants. There are many different plants, but all need the same 3 things. Do you know what they are? You may also choose an interesting specimen plant to grow and learn about.
Exotic Plants, Gardening in Containers, Small Places, or Helping Pollinators all can be special projects. Ask your club leader if you can plan and have a club plant activity at a club meeting.
September is a great time to gather seeds and seed pods, tree cones or nuts for a variety of ID projects, Crafts, or Holiday Arrangements. Drying plant materials and using them in crafts can be a fun plant project. Dividing perennials or planting bulbs are two more great plant activity projects for September.

2026 September Natural Sciences Activities,
Adventures, and Environmental projects
All 4-H members and families are welcome to attend any or all meetings, activities and events for learning and enjoyment.
Project meetings can be specific topics others may have a broader scope that cover more than one project area. The Sept and Oct activity meetings are in conjunctions with 4-H and area events and programs. At them everyone can learn and gain information from qualified presenters.
September 16th will be the 4-H Open House, 4:00–6pm at the Extension Office. Come and explore the different Natural Science projects you can do.
Ask questions and learn of the project possibilities that are called natural sciences, adventures and environment projects.
Get handouts and do an activity relating to insects pollinators.
If you are unable to attend the Open House, here are some ideas to consider.
· Trees & Flowers – Fall is a great time to gather leaves and seeds for tree or plant ID. Take beautiful fall pictures to help show the life cycle of trees or plants.
· Start a Nature Log on seasons, birds, or animals.
· Consider an environmental question or problem about Insects, Chemicals
or non biodegradable items such as plastics.
· Enjoyment and/or management of the environment – hiking, camping, fishing, boating, bird watching, hunting (Bow deer hunting starts in Sept. What kind of bows are used for hunting? What are the regulations?)
· Attend presentations and activities, county events or programs.
October 3 & 4 the RRVGS Gem and Mineral Show offers
– Geology – a project possibility
· Everyone is invited to check out the world of rocks at the Gem and Mineral Show, Saturday Oct 3, 10am to 5pm & Sunday Oct 4, 10am to 4pm at the Jefferson County Fair Park. The theme of the show is Wisconsin Rocks.
· Take time to view the special rock collections by 4-H youth members. Or exhibit a collection you have or create a display as a project activity. (Contact Sharon for project info details) Meetings and more
information available.
The show offers a chance to learn about the geology of the earth. See minerals, gems and crystals that play an important part in our lives. Find fossils from all over the world. All these “rocks” are for viewing or purchase as specimens.
There will be fun learning activities too. Try gold panning, view rock polishing, or spin the wheel to win rock specimens.
