July Club Updates

Farmington All-Stars plant flowers by town hall

By Michael Wilson–Club Reporter

The Farmington All-Stars met June 2 at the Farmington Town Hall to weed and plant flowers in front of the town hall and to hold the club’s regular monthly meeting.

Members voted to pay for a pizza party on the Friday evening of fair week, like the club usually does, and to create new club banners and decorations for some of the barns.

The club will have representatives at both the Jefferson County Breakfast on the Farm, early in June, and at the Watertown Agribusiness Club’s Dairy Breakfast, on Father’s Day weekend.

Club members also recapped some of the recent service projects the Farmington All-Stars have done, including blanket-tying for charity and the roadside cleanup in May around the Farmington Fields ballpark.

The club also talked about holding a picnic/fun meeting in August and possibly volunteering at the Sheep and Wool Fest in September.

The Lake Ripley 4-H Club had its June meeting and club ice cream social on Sunday, June 14th at Gerner Grain Farms.  We talked about the fun we had participating in the Cambridge Memorial Day parade and presented our graduating senior – Lauren Stengel – with a club scholarship of $250.

The club talked about member participation at our two upcoming fairs: the Stoughton Fair & Jefferson County Fair.  Members will be volunteering at the Dairy Bar on July 2nd and 4-H Kitchen on July 8th.

This month’s project talk was done by Claire Ziemba and Gretchen Wethal.  They brought a Holstein Heifer to the meeting to demonstrate how they get ready for Dairy showmanship and did an awesome job explaining what the judge is looking for.  After the meeting was adjourned, Eva & Brooklyn Holzapfel brought their show pigs out and talked about what they’re doing to get their pigs ready for fair.  Members got to ask questions to about each of the projects and learned a lot!

Ice cream and ALL the toppings were served afterward the meeting and members were wished good luck on their upcoming fair schedule!

If your club would like to share an update in the newsletter, please email it to cadance.hawk@wisc.edu by the 15th of the month prior.
